TGIF or OSIM (Oh Sh!t it’s Monday)

, Designer. You can find me at the local cafe reading, drinking a latte.

So how do you feel when Friday comes around?

Then, let me ask, how do you feel when Monday comes around?

Those are two totally different sets of feelings aren’t they?

Yes, they are, I’ll answer for you. Or at least they are for most people.

But yo, what if they didn’t have to be.

What if instead of Thank Goodness It’s Friday or Oh Sh!t It’s Monday it was just like Hot Damn, It’s a New Day! 😀 (Remember that song?)

One way to give yourself the new day joy feeling is to switch your routines, practices and habits.

Knowledge is power right? So here are a few ways to swap from being happy only when it’s Friday to being happy everyday by way of generating your own income. (Not income from and for your boss 👎🏾)

Just cause you graduated don’t mean you ain’t ‘sposed be learning err day. Had to speak freely a bit. But for real, it’s time to learn all of the time and then it’s time to apply those learnings every day.

Here are the books I’m reading to help me smile daily instead of dreading every second of my life:

1) Atomic Habits by James Clear

We aren’t what we eat, we are what our habits dictate. That’s heavy right? But it’s true. Cool thang about life though, is apparently every second is a chance to start over. With new fresh, planned habits, we can turn our lives around, faster and easier than we may think.

Not ready to buy the book? Cool. There is always an alternate solution to aproblem. Get familiar with James Clear through his blog:

2) The Richest Man in Babylon

I listen to a lot of Jim Rohn. He was an OG motivational speaker. He has passed but his teachings live on. A book he often recommended in his talks was The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason. This easy read is in story form and gives the keys on how to save money from the prespective of, yup you guessed it, the Richest Man in Babylon.

Don’t wanna drop the cash to cop the book. Cool, I found the audiobook for free!

Hold up. Yes, this email list is about designing for your own business, this specific email is about how to prepare to set up shop on your own and get your money and not money for your boss. To connect any gaps, let’s be real. Alot of our emotions come from our financial situation (which is habitual) so if we lock in a savings habit (saving 10% of all earnings from what The Richest Man says) now we have created a positive habit (what Atomic Habits is all about) which will add to our happiness, add to our savings and will add smiles to our faces thus making us feel like Hot Damn It’s A New Day! Instead of TGIF or OSIM (Oh Sh!t It’s Monday).

3) The One Thing

This book by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan is pretty special in the 2018 – 19. Why? Distraction. Distraction is so real, it is becoming a natural feeling to have a few things going at once while getting no real result. We crave the feeling of doing a lot of a little and not a lot focused work. Insane. The one thing discusses and takes you through the benefits of doing one thing at a time.

Big takeaway from The One Thing: The focusing question. This one gets me excited. Here it goes:

“What’s the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it

everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

Bringing it all together (almost)

So, we can make every day feel like TGIF. We do that by taking a little more control in how we accumulate our income and then how we utilize that income.

Here is how it connects:

  • Create, market and sell your product or service
  • Develop new habits that support creating your very own income (self development trickles into an increase in revenue)
  • Ask and answer the focusing question to avoid distraction to produce results

(a standard practice: always review and revise your methods)

Then, monitor both your results and feelings. After a while TGIF will be 24/7 no more OSIM and more Hot Damn It’s a New Day!
